New Interview with Emma Watson

Published by ewonline on 03/20/2006

Emma Watson recently did an interview while she was in Manhattan (New York). She talks a little bit about Hermione being a role model and the new movie, Goblet of Fire.

Have you ever met J.K. Rowling, the author of "Harry Potter"?
Yes. I normally see her every year.

What do you have in common with your character, Hermione?
Everything. We are really, really similar. I used to deny it, but now I don’t think it is a bad thing. She is kind of a role model for girls.

Have you read any of the Harry Potter books?
Yes. Even before I started auditioning, I read the first three books. I was a pretty big fan

Is there anything you didn't like about the movie "Goblet of Fire"?
Probably one of the things I didn’t like is that we filmed so much material. A lot of it gets cut. When you watch it for the first time, you realize that things have been cut out. You just think that there have been months and months of work that are just gone.

What do you think is better -- the book or the movie?
That is a really difficult question. I love books, and I really hope that because of the films, kids won’t stop reading the books. Even if you have seen the films, the books are still really special.

Because of the Harry Potter movies, do your friends treat you any differently?
New people who meet me treat me differently, but my friends all treat me the same. They don’t give me any special attention.

If you weren't an actress, what would you do?
I am only 15, so it is difficult to say. I don’t know. I guess just being a normal schoolgirl would be OK.

What is it like being away from home?
I used to get really homesick, but now I love it because I get to travel a lot.
