Growing Up On Set
Growing up has been a major theme in the Harry Potter series. The characters have grown up, as have the actors who have portrayed them. It is quite stunning to see how much the actors have actually grown-up, from preteens in the first film, to almost fully-fledged adults in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
“Wow, we’re all so grown-up!” actress Emma Watson states in an interview with Parade Magazine, after seeing how mature her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have become for their roles in the latest installment. Much as the characters have in the books and films, the three actors filling the roles have become great friends.
Since age 11, actress Emma Watson has been famous. She tried out for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which was her first audition. She claims that she had no idea of the scale of the film, nor how much fame would accompany it. Meanwhile, she remains a good student, which is a rare thing amongst child celebrities. She states that, “Learning keeps me motivated,” which is oddly fitting for her character. Watson also has other characteristics of her Hermione, including an often carefree appearance. In fact, the three main characters (as well as actors) have had their shares of fitting in with their characters. For example, at the start of filming, Radcliffe and Grint teased Watson, much as their characters did in the series. However, the three have become fast friends, growing up quickly. It is clear that after six years of filling the roles, Radcliffe, Watson and Grint have become as mature as the character they portray, which is important for the new film, which contains strong themes of maturing from children into adults.
